The name of the kidney bean indicates its shape: This is curved and resembles a kidney. The red kidney beans are a variant of the garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). This variety originated in Peru. However, it was already brought to Europe during the colonial period. Kidney beans require a humid and warm climate for a plentiful crop yield. Besides America and Africa, today’s main cultivation areas are other Asian countries, especially China. Our organic kidney beans also come from China, where we buy them for our customers under our own control from proven trading partners. This ensures that all requirements for organic certification are met. It is also important to us that our products are grown sustainably and traded fairly. Our organic kidney beans, like other varieties of bean, bring nutritional value and nutrients to the table. They are rich in protein, carbohydrates and fibre. They also make a valuable contribution to the daily supply of minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Organic kidney beans become soft when cooked, they are slightly floury and have a sweetish taste of their own.
