We also purchase these plate lenses in organic quality from Turkey or Canada. The variety Laird delivers large lenses, they are about 6 mm in diameter. Perhaps their size is one of the reasons why they are called plate lenses. What is certain is that a plate of these lenses is already a satisfying meal that doesn’t cost too much. Tradition has it that they were originally called bright lenses because of their low price. The inside is yellow, the skin has a play of colours from green to brown. This is partly due to the variety and growing area, but also to the storage time. However, dried lentils retain their valuable ingredients even after prolonged storage. In this respect they differ only insignificantly from other lens varieties. Laird are protein-rich, a meal of 100 g dried lentils covers almost half the daily requirement of an adult. Their fat content of around 1.5 g and the numerous dietary fibres make lentils a satisfying dish that is not too high in calories despite the carbohydrates. Minerals such as magnesium and zinc also help maintain health and well-being.

Use

Plate lenses are probably the most sold lenses. With their savory taste, they are ideal for down-to-earth, savory cuisine. Lentils with bacon, savory bratlings, strong soups will find much approval with our organic lentils Laird. As their name suggests, they are ideal for all kinds of plate dishes. They are used to make warm soups, stews and all kinds of rice dishes. In casseroles, the full-fledged lentils also look good. Creative cuisine can be served with meat and fish. The possibilities for creating Laird spreads with organic lentils are almost unlimited. Their nutty aroma can be complemented by countless spices such as turmeric, black cumin, coriander or curry. Ingredients such as paprika, tomato, onion or garlic give their earthy taste contra and create an all-round appealing spread.
